Person with short hair in a dimly lit room, washing their back with a sponge. Light casts a narrow beam across their skin.

No one wants to hear about the struggles of losing weight when people are literally dying to be thin.

And yet, here I am, navigating the emotions that come with an ever-changing body—one that has been both praised and critiqued, one that has expanded and shrunk, one that I’ve had to learn to love through every phase.

Being skinny isn’t foreign to me.

But after growing into my “grown woman” size, I finally started accepting my body.

My stomach was no longer flat, but I fell in love with the way my shape dipped and curved. I embraced it fully. My wardrobe became a reflection of that confidence—bold, bright, and revealing (at least for me).

And then, I got sick. Again.

And then, I started losing weight. Again.

And then, the comments on my body’s ever-changing terrain began.

Again.

To some, I looked great. To others, I looked better before.

But to me?

I was mostly pissed about my wardrobe.

A collection of clothing that I had carefully curated for my milf era (shoutout to Yuri) no longer fit. The pieces I had chosen to affirm my body now hung off of me like strangers. I found myself grieving my closet, a reminder of the body that was and the body that is.

And I know some of you—those who’ve heard me complain about clothes literally falling off—are probably thinking, “Girl, if you don’t stop kicking a gift horse in the mouth.”

I get it.

I know my skinny privilege. I hold space for that reality while also holding space for the grief of starting over again—a feeling that takes me back to when I first got sick in sixth grade. But this time, the diagnosis is more serious.

Your Body Deserves Love—At Every Stage

Smiling person gently touches their shoulder in a brightly lit setting, highlighting a sense of care and contentment.

Here’s what I’ve learned through this: our bodies deserve love and acceptance at any weight, phase, and stage. We are not our size.

Health is not synonymous with weight.

And when I created Unique & Lovely, I did so with this exact message in mind. I wanted to build a brand that reminds us to affirm ourselves through every change—because our worth isn’t tied to a number on a scale or the fit of our jeans.

Whether my body expands or shrinks, I am still Unique & Lovely.

And so are you.

Affirming Your Style Through Every Change

Six Black women pose confidently against a white brick wall, wearing vibrant outfits in orange, yellow, and patterns, conveying a stylish mood.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that style should evolve with you. So if you’re finding yourself in a transition—whether that’s due to weight fluctuation, pregnancy, illness, or just personal growth—here are some ways to embrace your ever-evolving body with confidence:

  • Invest in adaptable pieces – Stretchy fabrics, wrap dresses, and layering pieces can work with you, not against you.

  • Accessories always fit – Statement earrings, affirmation pins, and bold scarves can make any outfit feel intentional. (And yes, Unique & Lovely has just what you need!)

  • Wear what makes you feel good – Forget the number on the tag. If it makes you feel powerful, wear it.

Your Body Is Worthy—Always

Wooden letter tiles spelling "WORTHY" on a white surface, with blue and beige flowers on the left, creating a calm, uplifting mood.

If no one has told you today:

You are beautiful in the body you have right now.

Whether you’re growing, shrinking, healing, or evolving, you are worthy of love, style, and self-acceptance.

And I hope you choose to affirm yourself today.

Have you ever had to reconcile your style with body changes?

Let’s talk about it in the comments!

And if you’re looking for affirming apparel and accessories that remind you of your power, explore Unique & Lovely—because you deserve to feel confident at every stage of your journey.

Stay Unique & Lovely.
